Meet Rebecca Lutz – Beertender at Hop & Barrel Brewery. We are excited to have her on our team. She loves connecting with people in the environment that a brewery creates, and enjoys meeting the cool people who stop into our taproom. She is excited to learn more about brewing process and more in depth on all the things that happen around here. But lucky for us, she has her finger on just about everything! Rebecca grew up in Stillwater, then moved farther west into the cities. About five years ago they decided to slingshot back to Somerset for a change of pace. She used to do daycare for Justin’s kids and when she heard about Hop & Barrel in the planning stages, she was really intrigued. Seeing Justin’s excitement, and meeting Brian and seeing his excitement, after 20 years of daycare, it just felt like the right move to join the Hop & Barrel team.
What is your official title here at Hop & Barrel?
Beertender? I help out wherever I am needed which could include clearing kegs, organizing shelves and merchandise, or the signage around the brewery. A little bit of everything!
How did you learn about Hop & Barrel?
I used to do daycare for Justin’s kids, I heard about Hop & Barrel in the planning stages and it was really intriguing. Then seeing Justin’s excitement and meeting Brian and seeing his excitement, it just felt like the right move after doing daycare for 20 years.
What do you like most about working here?
I love the atmosphere and who I get to work with everyday. The guys are a riot, they are the best bosses I’ve ever had. And I’ve had some good ones. They get everyone involved in things, it’s like a family. Everyone is fun and high energy, and just excited to be here!
What is your favorite Hop & Barrel beer?
Right now I am currently diggin’ the Crooked Grin, but Episode 2 is lovely as well.
What does a typical day for you look like?
Depending on the day, I have a honey-do list to tackle before they open like clean and get the spaces ready for hang out. Sometimes extra little projects which are fun!
Out of all the great events they offer, which are you most excited for?
The yoga in the barrel room. It’s an hour of yoga and then you have a beer and hang out afterwards – so much zen!
What do you like to do in your free time?
Free time, what’s that? I have three daughters ages 6, 9, & 14, so I enjoy spending time with them! A lot of time is spent running them to dance or other activities. We do have a mini zoo that is pretty fun! We have two bunnies – George and Pip, three cats – Joey, Felicity, and Victoria, and a bird named Dean. We used to have Sam so they were the pair from Supernatural which my oldest daughter is currently into. Her and her best friend each have a necklace one says Moose and the other Squirrel (only true fans will get it)! Recently they adopted two guinea pigs – Stella and Zoey, and also adopted two gerbils – Tommy and Olaf. The zoo continues!
Any last words for people new to Hop & Barrel?
